The design of the new OBI hypermarket building in Kazan received a BREEAM New Construction Interim Excellent certificate

Previously the hypermarket was a part of MEGA Kazan shopping center, where a large-scale reconstruction is going on now. The area of the new building is about 12 thousand square meters. Particular emphasis during the renovation will be made "on emotional involvement of customers due to improved presentation of goods, as well as "inspiration zones", where interior design ideas are presented".

The project received maximum points in the "Waste" category. It is planned that in the process of construction waste up to 75% of construction waste will be recycled or reused (avoiding going to landfill). It is also planned to use at least 25% of recycled crushed stone and the organization of a special place at the construction site for separate collection of waste with further removal for recycling.

Another important factor in obtaining the Excellent rating was the high energy efficiency of the project. So, as a result of energy modeling the facility received 10 points out of a possible 15. Impressive improvements over the base model of the building were achieved:
✔️ 31.4% less energy consumption;
✔️ 50% less energy consumption;
✔️ 9.8% lower CO2 emissions.

The following factors contributed to the high result:
- more efficient interior lighting is applied;
- low thermal conductivity of stained glass windows, doors and gates.
- application of high efficiency rotary recuperators for the ventilation system;
- application of air recirculation at night in the sales area.
